Is it really November? Divide by Zero has arrived with its seasons of heartache and joy. A Bible Book of the Alphabet is on sale on Amazon, remembering the spring of creation, through Fall to a Christmas redemption. And Jerusalem Journey is into its final production phase, ready to complete a set of Five-Minute New Testament Stories. Is it really November? Where has the year gone? Into writing books I suppose. And reviewing them... My apologies to anyone whose book review is still overdue, but I will catch up, eventually, I promise :)

This blogpost is written with many and sincere thanks to Amazon. Stonegarden.net, publishers of Divide by Zero and other excellent novels by excellent authors, closed its doors with an end-of-days event on facebook on June 30th. Rights to our novels reverted to the authors on July 1st, and straightaway the kindle version of Divide by Zero became unavailable on Amazon. The paperback version's lagging behind but I'm pretty sure it will vanish soon too, leaving only a few "new and used" copies available from random warehouses. But what about my ratings and reviews? Okay, so ten reviews may not sound much to you well-established authors out there, but it's ten more than many of my books have. I worked hard to get them and my reviewers worked hard to give them me. So I asked the advice of friends and fellow authors, finally deciding to self-publish Divide by Zero on kindle to see if that would help me retain my reviews. I went to the doctor yesterday. He's been giving me antibiotics for a lump at the top of my thigh, but it wouldn't go away. So there was I, expecting he'd just say, "Keep taking the tablets." And instead he asks me, "Well, shall we take it out?" What! Now! I thought for about a minute and said yes, since sitting on the lump was rather a pain. Now I'm  sitting on a hole. Thing is, the lump really didn't seem so big. Just something slightly out of place, not quite right, that wasn't too bad to live with. But now I've seen how much was hidden underneath (think a rather solid eyeball perhaps) I'm really glad I'm rid of it. One day later, sitting slightly awkwardly in my computer chair, I'm editing the sequel to my novel, Divide by Zero . Part 2 of this companion tale's not quite right but not too bad for me to live with either. Maybe I just need to tweak this chapter, or that... Or maybe I should take out the rather solid ...

Yes! Divide by Zero is really in Powells, on a shelf, waiting to be sold. But it's not reached my local branch yet--they say it'll arrive in a couple of weeks and I can do a "drive-by" book-signing, but I'll have to bring a friend with a camera so I can post pictures afterwards. Powell's are going to put Divide by Zero on the shelves in my local store, but in the downtown store there's another curious option. It's in the Purple Room, it's called an Espresso Machine, and it serves up printed books to read while drinking those cups of coffee. The machine wasn't doing very much when I got there. They'd only just switched it on and apparently it won't work too well until it's warmed up--and they mean warm. The copy of Divide by Zero I bought from them was truly "hot off the press"! See that printer thing sitting on top. Once they'd downloaded my book it started printing the cover. You can just see the colors of Divide by Zero and the writing on the spine in the picture to the right. Meanwhile at the other end of the machine a super-fast printer was churning out page after page for the interior, outlined in yellow here. The printed pages pile up in the middle, all nicely stacked togeth...

I got the phonecall this morning and I've been dancing ever since (well, shopping too). But now I'm sitting at the computer and it's time to share my news. Powell's said YES! They're going to stock Divide by Zero on the shelves of my local bookstore. I'm really going to see my novel there! Now I'm dreaming of seeing it fly off the shelves... Never satisfied, we writers...
